Calvados Pays d'Auge 1997 vintage of the last century

Ultra premium series of 120 numbered bottles., drawn from cask PO113 (single cask)

A nectar of the gods from which the angels have taken their good share, leaving patient men the just reward of having known how to wait all these years.

Double distilled over a wood fire in the art of the most prestigious of its appellations, the AOC Pays d’Auge, le Calvados 1997 from the Château de Courménil is a  very rare vintage. We shall try to leave a little for the next generation once it has passed 50 years of age.

The most powerful of our vintages.

Tasting:

Here again, happily, are the distinctive aromas  that our terroir gives our apples, notably oven-baked apples, lightly spiced, with dried fruits and gently roasted notes.

Naturally reduced by so many years of ageing, its strength remains high, but its roundness alone shows its infinite nobility

1996 harvest:

A severe drought and Provençal heat produced few apples, but ones of astonishing sweetness, for an indulgent cider.

The first autumn fermentation was quick, but a late spring in 1997 marked by intense heat was enough to remove all the harshness of the first spirits, promising a distillation full of roundness.
