Cows grazing in the Courménil apple orchards

This grass is certainly unique in France, but do they realise the tremendous natural contribution these animals make to our orchards?

Worthy rivals of Japan's beer-massaged Kobe cattle, our cows are never kept in sheds, are always out at grass, and gobble up four times their weight in our apples every year!

They are lucky "sacred cows" indeed, and so are we, for they are admirable natural mowers and "enrichers" for our orchards!

Cows... lucky "sacred cows"

We always laugh when our thoroughbred-breeding neighbours reproach us for letting what they scornfully call "common cows" graze on grass so fine and so rich that they nickname it "Norman caviar",
