Our calvados medals, 40 years of work
These medals, so often proudly displayed, are far more than a roll of honour. Behind the glint of the metal lie years of doubt, of uncompromising standards and, always, of family sacrifice.
Winning a medal with an artisan product means submitting to the judgement of nature. It means accepting sleepless nights beside the burning still, listening to the hiss of the copper, watching for the exact second when the "heart of the run" turns.
It is also the anxiety of the spring frosts in the orchards, and the sweat of the autumn harvests.
Each medal has come to reward the stubbornness of several generations who refused to bend before the standardisation of taste.
For us, these awards are not an end in themselves, but a promise kept to our ancestors.
When you uncork a medal-winning cuvée from the Distillerie de Courménil, you are not only tasting an exceptional Calvados; you are sharing the victory of a family in love with its terroir.
The Gold, Vermeil and Silver Medals won by our Calvados are very numerous.
"Gold and silver adorn our bottles, but every medal tells of an invisible battle..."
Other distinctions, more incredible still, have royal or military origins!
All bear witness to the thousands of hours we have devoted over decades to the pursuit of excellence.
But it is the delicate tasting of our Grands Millésimes, their aromatic complexity, softness, power and length on the palate, that is our finest reward...

Our Calvados at Buckingham Palace

The Royal Family of England adores our beautiful Normandy, its thoroughbreds, its gastronomy, and its Grands Calvados.
The 'fine palates of the Palace' were so taken with our Millésime du Millénaire that they thanked us with the gift of this magnificent emblem of the Arms of the Crown.
Winning fine Medals, and many of them, is deeply satisfying... but to be honoured in this way by the most famous palace on the planet is a very great source of pride for us, so much does it add to the renown of our fantastic Terroir.
Medal of Excellence for our Calvados XO-Xtra Old
Our Calvados XO had already received the Silver Medal at the 2023 Concours National, which was hardly surprising given the number of medals won by the vintages that go into its blend.
Invited by the officers of the 13ème RDP of the Special Forces, the most famous of their regiments, we were greatly surprised when, surrounded by his commanding officers, their General said to me:
"Master distiller, please rise... our regiments which form the excellence of our armed forces have the good fortune to taste your liqueurs and your Calvados., your Calvados XO in particular, whose excellence is equal, in its own field, to that of our elite regiments ....It is therefore only natural that I have the honour of presenting you, in their name, with the Medal of Excellence of our Special Forces."
Forty years of effort from our small Normandy Distillery to hear such a compliment was enough, that day, to turn great pride into warm tears of emotion..
